I’m trying to find the best dentist for my child. He’s four years old. There are a couple of pediatric dentists in my area, but I haven’t been too impressed with them. I was thinking of going to my general dentist’s office. I’m really pleased with my dentist and know he likes children. I just want to make sure it’s the best thing for my son. Any advice?

Polly,
It’s obvious you’re a diligent and loving mother. We always want the best for our children, even the best dentist. A general dentist will do fine. They’re trained to treat children as well as adults. If for some unforeseen reason something comes along he can’t handle, then he’ll refer you to a specialist.
I know you said your dentist likes children, but are you sure he’s comfortable treating children as young as your son? Make sure you ask him ahead of time. One way to know for sure, is to ask at what age he likes seeing a child for their first appointment. If he says eight or nine, then you may want to try elsewhere. If he says two or three, you’re son will be in fine hands.
