A Story of Hope

Since graduating from dental school in 1993, Dr. Cha dreamed of becoming a world-class cosmetic dentist. In 1997 he formed Tulsa Cosmetic Dental Center and started serving the Tulsa area by providing cosmetic and restorative dentistry.

In the early 2000s, years of practicing dentistry had taken a toll on his body. After a lengthy dental procedure in 2008, Dr. Cha ruptured two spinal discs. Immediately, he was seen by a physician.

However, the physician misdiagnosed his condition as acute muscle pain, administered pain medication, and sent him home. When the pain medication wore off in the early morning hours, Dr. Cha could not walk nor feel his lower body. He was seen by the spinal doctor in the morning and was operated on.

The operating doctor diagnosed “cauda equina syndrome,” a severe condition where the spinal cord suffers permanent nerve damage from the disc fragments compressing the cord.

After three weeks of heavy steroid treatment, the physician dismissed Dr. Cha from the hospital with a 25% chance of complete recovery.

This was a very dark period in his life. Then, after a period of uncertainty, wondering if he could return to his dental career, he realized that in the darkest hour, he just needed hope—a hope of a better future and recovery.

Dr. Cha found his hope in the scriptures, in Isaiah 53:5: “And by his stripes, we are healed.” As a result, in 2009, he changed the name of his dental practice to Hope Restorative & Cosmetic Dentistry. The clinic’s mission is to restore patients’ hopes and dreams by restoring broken-down oral health to a beautiful, healthy smile.

Why Choose Hope Restorative and Cosmetic Dentistry?

Dr. Cha uses the latest technology to make your treatment easier and more comfortable. For example, digital X-rays expose you to much less radiation than traditional X-rays, and the results show up right away on a computer screen.

We also use intraoral cameras to take clear pictures of problem areas in your mouth. This technology lets us zoom in on the photos up to 50 times. If you’ve never seen your teeth this way, you’ll be surprised by how much these images help you understand your treatment.

In addition, we use laser technology for some procedures. Laser dentistry is very precise and helps you heal faster. We also use the Carestream CT Scan system to plan dental implant treatments. This system gives Dr. Cha a 3D view, so he knows exactly where to place your dental implants. With this technology, he can see the exact locations of your nerves, blood vessels, sinus cavities, and bone structure.
