How do I find a really good implant dentist?

I’ve decided to replace my dentures with dental impalnts. I’m really excited about the prospects and I want to find a really good implant dentist. I understand the procedure can be tricky and I want the best chance of having a good experience.

Douglas,

It’s good you’re writing about this. I can’t tell you the number of dental implant horror stories I’ve come across.

You’re right that it is an advanced procedure. Yours will require even more advanced skill, because of your dentures. Depending on how long you’ve had them, you may need to have bone grafting done.

The key in finding the best dentist will be the post-graduate training the dentist has done.  Look for someone who has studied extensively at LVI or the Misch Institute. For instance, Dr. Cha hasn’t just taking some of the courses at the Misch institute, he’s taken ALL of them.

There’s an added benefit if they are AACD accredite, because that mean the implant crown they make will be beautifully and naturally done.

Can dentures look like natural teeth?

I had gum disease for a long time without realizing it.  Now I’m losing most of my teeth. It’s disheartening. The only thing I remember about dentures is my grandma wore them…sometimes. They were often so comfortable that she kept them out.  When she did wear them they looked obviously fake. I’m devastated that this is my future and am hoping that with all the modern developments we’ve had that maybe we can make dentures look better.

Evie,

There have been a lot of developments in teeth replacement. You can now get dentures that look as good or even better than your natural teeth (not that I’m saying your natural teeth look bad).  I’m just saying, if you’re stuck with fake teeth, why not get an upgrade.

However, there is an even better development in tooth replacement you should at least look into.  Dental implants are like having your natural teeth back. They are more expensive, but are superior to dentures.  Though, not everyone is a candidate.

The good news is that whichever you choose will be far superior to anything your grandmother had access to.
