I do as much as I can for myself without having to pay for it. I found several YouTube videos on relining dentures. I want your opinion, though, on brands that will give me the best results. If I spend my time and money on it, I want to get good results. Thank you. Tessa from Baltimore
Tessa – Before relining a denture, it is best to understand why it does not fit correctly.
Which Denture Relining Kit Should You Buy?
It would be best if you did not buy a denture relining kit of any brand. If your dentures are not fitting correctly, there are several possible causes. And relining may not be the solution.
Factors that affect how your denture fits:
- Poor-quality dentures. If dentures are made from inferior materials or poorly made, it can be challenging to secure them.
- The age of the dentures. Older dentures can loosen and fit poorly. Worn dentures need to be replaced.
- Bone shrinkage. As you’ve worn dentures for years, your jawbone begins to shrink. The dentures will loosen and need to be relined or replaced.
- Inaccurate impressions or fitting. Before you receive dentures, a dentist will take impressions of your mouth and measure your mouth to ensure proper fit.
Allow a dentist to determine why your dentures are not fitting correctly. Once the dentist identifies the issue, they will decide whether you require a soft or hard reline—or if another option will work best.
A do-it-yourself relining kit cannot resolve all the factors that influence how your dentures fit. It is possible to damage your dentures if you reline them yourself and make the relining fit. For proper denture care or a relining that will last, see a dentist experienced with fitting dentures.
