Finding the best dentist for dental implants

I plan on getting a couple of dental implants.  I’m a little concerned about choosing the best dentist for the procedure.  Are there certain qualifications to look out for?

Matt L.- Denver, CO

That is an important question. Dental implants are an advanced and complicated procedure.  I can’t tell you how many horror stories there are about dental implant complications and failure that could have been prevented.

The best dentist you can find for your dental implants are those who’ve had a significant amount of post-graduate training in neuromuscular dentistry, such as the Misch Institute or LVI. I, personally, wouldn’t be comfortable with someone performing that procedure without that caliber of training.

It would be a huge benefit to you, but not necessary, if your dentist was also accredited by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD). This will mean that your implant will be as gorgeous and natural looking as possible.

My dentures look like wooden teeth?

I got dentures. I was so glad to get something like teeth that I didn’t say anything, but now I’m embarassed to smile. Are all dentures like this?

No, each set of dentures are completely different and what they look like depends completely on the skill and artistry of your dentist.

What you need is a dentist with training not just in general dentistry, but in cosmetic techniques as well. If dentures are done right, they can be absolutely stunning. Not only can they look just like your natural teeth did, but you can get a tooth “upgrade”. You can make your smile look any way you want.

But, like I said, all of that depends on the dentist you choose.  Your best bet, is to use a cosmetic dentist who is accredited with the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD).
